Post 295 and its Auxiliary continues to Make Community Service a priority, despite, Covid-19 restrictions. reporting for the 2020/2021 started on 1 April 2021. During the first quarter of the 2020/2021 reporting period (the months of April May and June), Post 295 and Its Auxiliary volunteered 2946 hours. And donated $32,642 (figure includes cash donations and out-of-pocket expense not paid for by the Post or Auxiliary)
There are 7 general categories that each Post/Auxiliary are expected to participate in sometime through-out the year. I am proud to announce 295 had at least one entry in every category sometime during the reporting year
HIGHLIGHTS FROM EACH CATEGORY: AMERICANISM AND COOPERATION WITH OYHER ORGANIZATIONS *Flag Presentations and Education – Donated American & MIA/POW flags to both SSP High Rises *Distribution of Literature (Booths at various community events) *Memorial/Veterans Day Activities – Conducted Memorial Day services at Oak Hill Vet’s Memorial – (via internet, due to shelter in place restrictions). SAFETY * Home and Fire safety – Kid’s Safety Camp – Presently rescheduled for October 15 & 16, 2020 – Cash Donation * Other Safety projects – Gun Safety – Cash Donation AID TO OTHERS *Senior Citizen Outreach – Shopping for Seniors who, due to extreme vulnerability to covid-19, could not use metro mobility or other public transportation. *Helping Members, Their Families and Others in Need – Service Officer made Health and Welfare checks to members whom he knew had been recently on the sick-call roles. Also, provide transportation to post member to garage where his car had been towed after an accident. *Community Involvement – Post purchased and donated Hand Held Flags with stands (which were made by Post member with materials the Post paid for) to St. John’s Catholic Church Vermillion MN for distribution by students to the residents of local Senior care center on the 4th of July. * Other Aid Projects – Packed and sent 10 gift boxes to deployed troops
SCHOOL AND CHURCH ASSISTANCE * School Volunteers – Member who is employed by Minneapolis School District while being paid to stay home volunteered to go in and help distribute & explain technology to students @ their homes. CHILDREN AND YOUTH *Scholarships – The Post and Auxiliary provided scholarships for graduates of both SSP and IGH High Schools HOSPTAL AND BLOOD *MN Veterans Home Hastings & Minneapolis – 295 continues to support both homes by providing funds monthly for bingo at both homes and a cracker barrel at Minneapolis. Also, our Auxiliary President makes regular trips to Hastings with supplies for the personal needs rm. making sure each resident has a card on their birthday and other misc. errands for the home.
